THREAD: Ashwagandha Gummies - Liver Risk? Saw this concerning article...Started by OP

Hey everyone, just came across this article and wanted to get your thoughts. It's about ashwagandha gummies/supplements. The headline caught my eye: # Ashwagandha is Popular for Boosting Health — But Could it Hurt Your Liver? Ashwagandha, an ancient adaptogenic herb, has surged in popularity as a modern dietary supplement, frequently found in convenient gummy form. The article mentions some studies linking high doses or long-term use to potential liver issues in rare cases. Has anyone else seen this? I've been taking ashwagandha gummies for stress for a few months now and this has me a bit worried. What do you all think?

Oh wow, this takes me back. I remember when ashwagandha first started popping up in the wellness blogs I followed back in the early 2010s. Everyone was raving about it as this miracle herb for stress and energy. We used to just get it in powder form from health food stores and mix it into smoothies. Now it's in every gummy and capsule out there. I think the key here is moderation, like with anything. The article probably mentions that liver issues are rare and usually linked to excessive doses or pre-existing conditions. I've been taking a low-dose ashwagandha gummy daily for years (along with my other supplements) and my recent bloodwork showed my liver enzymes were perfectly normal. Always good to be informed though!

bro i take ashwagandha gummies pre-workout sometimes for that adaptogen boost. never had any issues. but yeah i read something similar last year. most supps can mess with your liver if you go overboard or have weak genetics for processing stuff. i stick to recommended dose on the bottle and cycle off every few months. also make sure you're getting yours from a legit brand that does third-party testing. some of those cheap amazon ones might have contaminants. if youre worried, get bloodwork done. simple. my doc checks my liver enzymes twice a year cause i take a bunch of supps for lifting. so far so good even with ashwagandha in the mix.

As a mom who's super careful about what goes into my family's bodies, this is exactly why I'm skeptical of these trendy supplements. Everyone jumps on the bandwagon without enough long-term safety data. My sister was taking ashwagandha gummies for anxiety and her doctor actually told her to stop because her liver enzymes were slightly elevated. She wasn't even taking a high dose! I think people need to remember these aren't candy - they're supplements with active ingredients. Have you talked to your doctor about your ashwagandha use, OP? Especially if you have any existing health conditions or take other medications. I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to liver health.

Thanks for the responses everyone. SolarSam - good point about moderation, and glad to hear your experience has been positive. IvyIron - cycling and third-party testing make sense, I'll check my brand. DynamicDan259 - that's concerning about your sister. I don't have any existing conditions but I haven't talked to my doctor about it specifically. Maybe I'll schedule a check-up and get some bloodwork done just to be safe. I think I'll continue with my gummies but maybe take a break for a couple weeks and see how I feel. Appreciate the perspectives!
