THREAD: Help! My homemade ashwagandha gummies turned into a sticky mess...Started by OP

Hey everyone, I tried making my own ashwagandha gummies at home to save some cash. Used gelatin, juice, honey, and mixed in some ashwagandha powder I bought online. Followed a basic gummy recipe but they never set right - just a gooey blob in the mold. Anyone have tips for getting the texture right with supplement powders? Do I need more gelatin or something?

Oh man, I feel your pain! I've been experimenting with herbal gummies for months. Ashwagandha powder can be tricky - it absorbs liquid differently. Try using 25% more gelatin than your recipe calls for, and make sure you're dissolving the powder in warm liquid FIRST before adding to the gelatin mix. Also, a tiny pinch of citric acid helps with texture AND cuts that earthy ashwagandha taste. Pro tip: add a splash of orange juice - masks the bitterness better than plain sweeteners!

Honestly, why bother? You're probably destroying whatever benefits the ashwagandha has by heating it. Most supplements degrade with heat - gelatin needs to be heated, right? Plus how do you even know you're getting consistent dosing in each gummy? This is why I stick to certified supplements. At least they're tested. But if you're determined... maybe try agar agar instead? Sets at lower temps.

As a mom who's tried making vitamin gummies for my kids... Vince has a point about dosing being uneven. But if you're doing this for adults and just want the general benefits, Bob's advice about extra gelatin is good. I'd add: pour thinner layers in your molds and refrigerate overnight. The ashwagandha powder I use tends to settle, so I stir constantly while pouring. Have you checked if your powder is pure or has fillers? That affects texture too. Be careful with kids around these though - they look like candy!

Thanks all! Bob - gonna try the extra gelatin and citric acid trick next batch. Vince - I hear you on the heat concern, might experiment with agar like you suggested. Quinn - good call on the stirring and thinner layers, my mold was pretty deep. The powder says 'pure extract' but who knows. Appreciate the help - will report back if batch #2 works better!
