B12 gummies changed color and texture – still safe?
I just opened my new bottle of B12 gummies (tropical flavor) and they're all stuck together and kinda hard. The color is darker too. They're not expired yet – the date is like 6 months from now. Are they still okay to eat? I really can't afford to throw them away and buy new ones right now. 😩
Hey! That happens a lot if they get warm or humid. Mine did that once and I just ate them anyway – no issues. But if they smell off or taste weird, toss 'em. Since you're on a budget, maybe try storing them in the fridge next time? Just my 2 cents.
I'd say check for sugar bloom – white powdery stuff? That's just sugar recrystallizing, safe to eat. If it's sticky and clumpy, it might be melting. You can try separating them with a knife and popping them in the freezer for 10 min. That firms them up. But if they're rock hard, maybe the gelatin degraded. I'd eat them as long as no mold. Taste test a small piece.
Often color/texture changes are from temperature fluctuations. B vitamins are sensitive. If they haven't been stored in extreme heat (like a car), they should be fine. But check for any off smells – if it smells like chemicals, don't risk it. Your body uses B12 for nerves, so quality matters. I'd say try one, and if no reaction, you're good. Maybe keep the bottle in a cool dark place next time. 🌿
