Gummy B12 turned white and hard – are they safe?
Hey folks, I got these vitamin B12 gummies from a popular brand. They were fine for a month, but now they're covered in white spots and feel rock hard. Some are even sticking together. I'm worried about giving them to my grandkids. Anyone know if this is normal or if they've gone bad?
IMO, sounds like sugar bloom or just age. I've had gummies do that and they were fine, but honestly I'd play it safe with kids. Maybe check the expiration? If they're past date or exposed to heat/humidity, toss 'em.
I think it's just sugar crystallization! My gummies do that sometimes, especially if the bag isn't sealed tight. I've eaten them like that and no issues. But I guess if the texture is super hard, they might not digest well? I'd maybe contact the company.
From a biohacker perspective: the gummy matrix can degrade over time. The white stuff is likely sugar or gelatin blooming. It's not mold (mold would be fuzzy). Still, potency might be lower. I'd personally eat them if within 6 months of purchase, but for kids? I'd get a fresh batch to be safe. Also, storing in a cool, dark place helps.
