Hey everyone! I tried making my own B12 gummies using gelatin and some cyanocobalamin powder. I used a basic recipe (1/2 cup juice, 2 tbsp gelatin, and 1/4 tsp B12). They set but turned out super rubbery and weirdly bitter. Any tips on ratios or flavors that mask the taste? I also want to try agar for a vegan version.

I've been down that road! The bitterness is from the B12 powder – try using a tastier form like methylcobalamin or add extra sweetener. For texture, you need to bloom gelatin properly. Try 1 tbsp gelatin per 1 cup liquid, and don't boil it! Also, agar is tricky – you need to boil it and it sets firmer. Maybe try a mix?

As a med student, I'd caution about dosing. B12 is water-soluble, but too much can cause issues. Make sure you calculate the amount per gummy. Also, sublingual is more efficient, but gummies are fun. For bitterness, citrus juice helps mask. And if you use agar, it needs to be boiled and then it sets at room temp – slight sweetness helps.

I've been making gummies for my kids for years! For B12, I use a flavored liquid (like orange juice concentrate) and add a bit of honey. The trick to avoid rubberiness is to use less gelatin and let them sit in the fridge overnight. For vegan, I like agar with fruit puree – but you have to simmer the agar for 5 mins. Also, try adding a tiny pinch of salt to balance flavors!
