Gummies turned hard and pale – still safe?
Hey everyone! I bought a jar of Beauty Gummies (the collagen ones) about a month ago. I opened them today and they've gotten super hard and kind of pale, almost like they have a white coating. They're not sticky, but they seem dried out. Is this normal? Are they still safe to eat? TIA!
Oh, I've seen that before! That's likely sugar bloom or just the gummies losing moisture. If they're not sticky or moldy, they're probably fine. But they might be a bit chewy or less tasty. You can try storing them in an airtight container with a silica packet to keep them fresh. I'd still eat them if they don't smell off.
Honestly, I'd toss them. If they change that much in a month, who knows what else is going on. Supplements are already sketchy with quality control. Better safe than sorry. Plus, if they're not sticky, they might have lost some active ingredients. Just buy a fresh jar.
I had a similar issue with some vitamin gummies. I checked online and it's usually just crystallization of sugar or the gelatin drying out. If they're not wet or smelly, you're fine. But if you have a smart phone, you can use a moisture meter app? Not really, but you can check the humidity in your area. I'd say eat them, but maybe cut them in half to check the inside? Just my two cents.
