THREAD: Biotin Gummies Side Effects - Anyone else worried after reading this article?Started by OP

Hey everyone, just came across this article and wanted to share: "5 Potential Side Effects of Hair, Skin, and Nails Vitamins" (link). The promise of luxurious hair, glowing skin, and strong nails has fueled a booming market for beauty supplements, with biotin gummies being super popular lately. The article lists some potential issues like skin breakouts, interference with lab tests, digestive problems, etc. I've been taking biotin gummies for a few months now and honestly haven't noticed much difference yet. What do you all think? Anyone experienced side effects or have thoughts on this?

Thanks for sharing this OP! As a yoga instructor, I always advocate for listening to your body first. I tried biotin gummies last year hoping they'd help with my brittle nails from all the handstands lol. But I broke out in weird little bumps on my chin after 2 weeks! Stopped immediately and my skin cleared up. Now I just focus on whole foods like almonds and sweet potatoes for biotin - nature's way is usually gentler. Maybe try reducing dosage if you're set on supplements?

omg Holly same thing happened to me!! I was making my own DIY biotin gummies with gelatin and orange juice (pinterest recipe) and my skin went CRAZY. Acne everywhere and I never get breakouts. Stopped after 3 weeks and it took a month to calm down. The article mentions skin issues - totally real in my experience. Now I just add biotin-rich foods to my smoothies instead. Has anyone tried topical biotin serums instead of ingesting?

Crossfit junkie here - been taking biotin gummies for 6 months for nail strength (barbell tears them up). No side effects for me personally, but my doc did warn me about the lab test interference! Apparently high biotin can mess with thyroid and hormone blood tests. Important if you get regular checkups. I cycle mine - 3 months on, 1 month off. Maybe that helps avoid issues? What dosage is everyone taking? Mine are 10,000mcg.

Enthusiastic health nut checking in! Great discussion everyone. The article is spot on about potential digestive issues - some gummies have sugar alcohols that can cause bloating. Always check ingredients! Personally, I prefer getting biotin from nutritional yeast and eggs. But if you do supplements, look for third-party tested brands and start with lower doses. OP - if you haven't noticed benefits after months, maybe your body doesn't need extra biotin? Could be wasting money. Blood test might help determine deficiency first!
