DIY Biotin Gummies - Help! My batch turned into a gloopy mess
Hey everyone, I've been trying to make my own biotin gummies at home using gelatin and biotin powder. First attempt was a disaster - they never set and turned into a sticky blob. I used 2 tbsp gelatin, 1 cup fruit juice, and 5000 mcg biotin. Any tips on getting them to firm up? Also, should I use agar instead? I'm new to this whole DIY supplement thing.
Oh man, I feel your pain. I tried making melatonin gummies once and ended up with a puddle. What helped me was blooming the gelatin in cold water first before heating. Also, make sure your liquid isn't too acidic - certain juices can break down the gelatin. I used a bit of honey instead of juice and they set perfectly. Good luck!
Bro, I need my caffeine, but biotin? That's for hair and nails, right? Anyway, I tried making energy gummies with caffeine powder and gelatin. Let's just say I was up for 48 hours and the gummies were more like jelly shots. But seriously, check your gelatin strength - there's a difference between Knox and the cheap stuff. Also, maybe try adding a little less liquid. And don't forget to refrigerate! That's what I did wrong the first time.
If you're paleo, you might want to avoid regular gelatin and use grass-fed gelatin or agar. I use agar for my elderberry gummies and they turn out great. But agar needs to be boiled for a few minutes to activate. Also, biotin powder can be bitter, so I add a bit of stevia or mashed berries. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the tips! I'll try blooming the gelatin and using less juice. And QuantumQuincy898, maybe I'll skip the caffeine powder for now, lol. I'll report back with my next batch!
