My biotin gummies turned brown and hard - safe to eat?
Hey everyone! I've been taking biotin gummies for like 3 months, they were fine. But I opened a new bottle yesterday and they look... different. They're darker in color and some are stuck together, a bit hard. The taste is off too. Is this normal? Should I still eat them or should I toss them? Any advice appreciated!
Hey OP! The change in color and texture is likely due to exposure to moisture or heat. Gummies are sensitive to humidity - the sugar can 'bloom' and they can harden. It's generally not a safety issue, just a quality thing. But if they taste off, I'd probably return them or get a new batch. Check the expiration date too. When in doubt, throw it out.
I've had that happen when I left my gummies in the car during summer - they melted and then re-solidified in weird chunks. I still ate them, no issues. But I know some people have sensitive stomachs. If they don't smell bad or have weird spots (like mold), they're probably fine. Just maybe store them in a cool, dry place next time.
I agree with the above. The texture change is just from moisture, but if they're hard they might be less effective? Not sure. I'd personally toss them and get a fresh bottle - they're not that expensive. Oral vitamins can degrade, and if they're not chewy, they might not be absorbed as well. Better safe than sorry.
Ha, I've eaten gummies that were basically rocks. As long as they don't have mold, it's fine. But the taste change might be from oxidation of the ingredients. If they taste really bad, that's a no-go for me. I'd try to return them to the store, they often have a satisfaction guarantee. Or just get a new brand that uses better packaging.
