My toddler thinks biotin gummies are candy - help!
Hey everyone, need some advice or maybe just a laugh. My 4-year-old found my biotin gummies and thought they were candy. He ate like 5 before I caught him! No harm done thankfully, but now he keeps asking for 'mommy's special candy' and throws a fit when I say no. Anyone else deal with this? They do look and taste like gummy bears, so I get the confusion!
OP, glad your kid is okay! Biotin is water-soluble so excess usually gets excreted, but still - not ideal for little ones. Have you considered a timed lockbox? I use one for all my supplements. It's a simple behavioral hack - out of sight, out of mind. Also, maybe switch to a less appealing form? I take biotin capsules now after my dog got into my gummies last year.
lol my husband did the same thing! He thought they were my new 'tech conference freebies' and ate a handful while gaming. Now he complains the texture is too chewy?? Says they get stuck in his teeth. I told him they're supplements not candy, but he wants me to find 'better ones' with smoother texture. Maybe there's a gummy tech solution here - like those dissolving strips?
I make my own biotin gummies! That way I control the ingredients and can make them look less like candy. I use silicone molds that are star-shaped instead of bear-shaped, and add a bit of lemon juice so they're tangy, not super sweet. My kids know 'mommy's stars' are different from regular gummies. Could be a fun DIY project if you're into that!
Thanks everyone! HealthHacker497 - lockbox is a great idea, ordering one now. JoyfulJack532 - your husband story made me chuckle, mine complains about texture too! IndigoIris540 - love the DIY approach, might try that once I get brave enough. For now, hiding them in the lockbox and telling my son they're 'all gone' seems to be working. Appreciate the tips!
