Started for sleep, stayed for the skin?!

So I've been taking biotin gummies for about a month now, mainly to help with my hair and nails (I'm a biohacker, always looking for that edge). But last week I noticed something unexpected - I've been sleeping better! Not like 'fall asleep fast' but deeper sleep, waking up refreshed. Anyone else experience this? Or am I just placebo-ing myself?

Interesting! Biotin is a B-vitamin, and B vitamins are involved in neurotransmitter production, which can affect mood and sleep. So it's plausible. But also, placebo is powerful. What dosage are you taking? I've seen some people take way too much biotin and it can mess with lab tests. But glad you're sleeping well!

I started biotin for my hair too (I'm paleo and my hair was thinning on a strict carnivore phase). I didn't notice sleep changes, but my skin cleared up! I had these little bumps on my arms (keratosis pilaris?) and they've smoothed out. Weird, right? Maybe it's the gelatin in the gummies? haha

Wendy, I take 5000 mcg daily (that's what the label says). I know that's on the high side but I read it's water soluble. Nina, that's awesome about your skin! Maybe there's more to biotin than we think. I might experiment with timing - take it in the morning instead of night to see if sleep changes. Anyone else have unexpected side effects?

5000 mcg is actually pretty common. Just be aware that high doses can interfere with thyroid function tests and some lab values. Not a big deal if you're healthy, but just so you know. Also, I've read that biotin can help with glucose metabolism, so maybe that's why I feel more energetic? Keep us posted, Pete!
