Hey guys, tried making my own vitamin gummies last night using agar agar (cause I'm vegan) and a mix of B12 and D3 powders. Followed a recipe online but they came out super hard and rubbery, not chewy at all. Anyone got tips on getting that soft, gummy texture without gelatin?

Oh no! Hard gummies are the worst. I've been making my own for a while and the key is hydration. Did you bloom the agar agar properly? Also, vitamin powders can be acidic and mess with the setting. Try adding a little citric acid or lemon juice after mixing. And maybe reduce the agar amount – start with 1 tsp per cup of liquid.

Ugh I feel you! My first batch turned into rock candy. I switched to gelatin even though I was trying to be plant-based… but then I found out agar sets firmer and at room temp. For gummies you actually want it to set in the fridge. Also, don't boil it too long or it gets tough. Maybe try a recipe with fruit juice as base – the natural pectin helps!

Agar can be tricky. I use beef gelatin from grass-fed cows cause I'm keto, and it works great. But for you, maybe try kappa carrageenan? It's vegan and gives a chewier texture. Also, make sure you're not adding too much vitamin powder – it can mess with the gelling. Try dissolving it in a small amount of water first.

Thanks everyone! I think I under-hydrated the agar for sure. And I'll try the fruit juice idea, maybe that'll mask the vitamin taste too. Going to attempt another batch tonight with your tips – wish me luck! 🤞
