Gummies turned hard and cloudy – safe to eat?
Hey guys, I bought a bottle of mixed berry gummy vitamins a month ago and just noticed they've gotten really hard and kind of... cloudy? Like there's white stuff on the surface. They're not sticky but definitely changed texture. Still in date. Anyone know if they're still okay to take?
Sounds like sugar bloom – it happens when gummies get exposed to moisture or temp changes. I'm no food scientist but I've had that happen with my own gummies before. I still ate them and was fine. But if they're rock hard, might be degrading. I'd say check for mold or off smell. If none, probably safe.
I agree with FuelFrank. Same thing happened to my vitamin C gummies – they got all cloudy and hard. I called the company and they said it's just the sugar crystallizing and the gelatin drying out. They said it's still safe, just less tasty. I ate them and no issues.
From a holistic perspective, I'd be cautious. The change in texture could indicate the nutrients have degraded. Gummies are sensitive to heat and humidity. Personally, if they're hard and have white bloom, I'd toss them and get a fresh batch. Better safe than sorry, but that's just my two cents. Listen to your body!
Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with ZenZoe's experience – no weird smell, no mold. I'll risk it 😅 Appreciate the help!
