Hey guys, first time trying to make my own gummy vitamins. I used gelatin, some vitamin C powder, and a bit of honey. Followed a recipe I found online but they came out super sticky and didn't set right. Any tips? Should I use agar instead? I'm traveling soon and want a portable snack.

Hey Rhino! Med student here, so I've done some research on this. Gelatin needs to be bloomed properly - did you let it sit in cold water first? Also, too much acid from the vitamin C can break down gelatin. Try using less vitamin C or add a buffer like calcium carbonate. Agar might be more stable but gives a different texture.

As a fitness pro, I've made a ton of these. Sticky usually means not enough gelatin or too much liquid. Ratio tip: 1 tbsp gelatin per 1 cup liquid. Also, make sure you're using a silicone mold and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Agar works but you have to boil it and it sets firmer.

Honestly, homemade gummies are a hassle. I just buy the classic ones from the store - they've been making them for decades. But if you insist, try a tried-and-true recipe from a reliable source like a cookbook. And don't forget to add some citric acid for tartness!
