THREAD: My gummy vitamins look weird - are they still safe to eat?Started by OP

Hey everyone, hoping for some advice. I opened my bottle of gummy vitamins this morning and they look totally different than usual. Some have turned a darker color, others feel really hard, and a few are stuck together in a clump. They're about 2 months old, stored in my kitchen cabinet. Are these still safe to take, or should I toss them? Worried about wasting money but also don't want to risk anything with my kids potentially eating them.

Oh I've totally seen this with my kids' gummies! Usually happens when they get exposed to heat or humidity. My rule of thumb - if they're just hard or stuck together but smell normal, they're probably fine. But if they smell off or have mold (look for fuzzy spots), definitely toss. I keep mine in the fridge now to prevent this, especially during summer. Saves money and keeps them fresh for my little ones!

This is actually super common! What you're describing sounds like sugar bloom - when moisture causes the sugar coating to crystallize. It's not harmful, just affects texture. The color change could be oxidation from air exposure. I'd recommend checking the expiration date first. If they're within date and no mold, they're likely safe but might not taste great. Pro tip: store with one of those silica gel packets to absorb moisture! #WellnessTips

I photograph natural products for my blog, and I've seen this happen with organic gummies especially. The natural ingredients can be more sensitive to temperature changes. If they've been in direct sunlight or near your stove, that could explain it. Personally, I'd err on the side of caution - nature tells us when something has changed too much. Maybe take a photo before you decide? Could make for an interesting comparison shot with fresh ones!

As someone who's consumed questionable supplements during intense training cycles... I'd say trust your senses. Give them a good sniff - if they smell like chemicals or something rancid, bin them. The hardening is usually just moisture loss, not dangerous. But if you're giving them to kids, maybe not worth the risk? I once ate protein bars that fused together in my gym bag - tasted awful but didn't get sick. Your call, but when in doubt, throw it out!
