My kid thought my gummy vitamins were candy... now he won't eat the capsules!

OMG you guys. So I usually take the gummy vitamins, right? But my doctor said I need more iron so I switched to capsules. Well, my 5-year-old saw the bottle and thought they were candy. I turned my back for TWO SECONDS and he had the cap off! Luckily it was child-proof but he was so upset when I told him they weren't candy. Now he's suspicious of ALL my vitamins. Even the gummies. He says they're 'tricky'. 😂 Any advice? Or just funny stories? I feel like a bad mom but also... it was kinda hilarious?

Oh honey, you're not a bad mom! Kids are like little raccoons, they get into everything. I had to switch to capsules for my keto diet (gummies have too many carbs) and my husband actually tried to eat one thinking it was a candy. He was NOT happy. Now I keep them in a locked drawer. Maybe try a pill organizer that looks like a toy? Or just hide them really well. Also, have you considered that maybe he just doesn't like the texture of capsules? My niece refuses anything that's not chewy. Could be a sensory thing.

Haha, been there! My son did the same with my fish oil capsules. He said they looked like 'orange jelly beans'. Gross. Anyway, for the texture issue, have you tried coating capsules in something? Like a little honey? Not sure if that's safe but I've heard of people doing that. Or you could get the powder form and mix it in a smoothie. Eco-friendly bonus: less packaging waste. Just a thought!

Thanks Cathy and Tom! Yeah, I think it might be a texture thing for him now because he's associating all vitamins with that 'tricky' feeling. I'll try the smoothie idea! And maybe I'll get a cute pill case so he doesn't see the bottle. Also, Cathy, your husband eating a vitamin thinking it's candy is hilarious. Men, am I right? 😂

Right?! And he's the one who always says I'm the one with the sweet tooth. 🙄 Good luck with the smoothie! Let us know if it works. And don't worry, this is a rite of passage for parents. My mom still tells the story of when I ate a whole bottle of Flintstones vitamins and had to get my stomach pumped. Oops.
