Collagen Gummies: Are they worth the sugar?
Ok I need to vent. I bought these collagen gummies cause I'm trying to improve my skin and hair, but I just read the label and they have like 5g of sugar per serving! That's basically candy! I thought I was being healthy but I might as well eat a handful of gummy bears. I feel like we're being tricked into thinking supplements are good for us when they're just glorified sweets. Anyone else feel this way?
I get where you're coming from, but as a mom of two toddlers, I barely have time to sit down and eat, let alone take a handful of pills or mix powder. Gummies are the only way I can stick to my supplement routine. I know they have sugar, but I figure it's a trade-off. I'd rather have the collagen and some sugar than no collagen at all. Plus, there are sugar-free options out there if you look. Just gotta find the right brand, don't give up!
Honestly, the whole supplement industry is a marketing machine. They know people want quick fixes and they slap 'gummy' on it to make it more appealing. The sugar is just a bonus for them. But here's the thing: does the collagen even survive digestion when it's in gummy form? I've read that chewables can have lower bioavailability. Maybe you'd be better off with a powder or even bone broth. Just saying, do your research.
Thanks for the input guys. I guess I was just caught off guard. NatureNancy, you make a good point about convenience. I might try looking for a low-sugar version. And LunarLily, I haven't heard about the bioavailability thing, that's interesting. I'll look into that. Maybe I'll switch to powder, but I'm always on the go for work, so we'll see. Appreciate the thoughts!
