THREAD: DIY Collagen Gummies Disaster - Help with Homemade Recipe!Started by OP

Hey everyone, tried making collagen gummies at home last night and it was a total fail! I used gelatin, some unflavored collagen powder, and a bit of honey. They came out super rubbery and wouldn't set properly - more like weird jello blobs than gummies. Anyone have a good recipe or tips? Wondering if I need to adjust the gelatin ratio or try agar instead?

First off, collagen is NOT vegan - it's usually from animal bones/skin. Gross! You should try agar-agar instead of gelatin, it's plant-based. I make my own vitamin gummies with agar, fruit juice, and a vegan multivitamin powder. They set way better and no animals harmed! But honestly, why even bother with collagen? There's zero proof it actually helps skin or joints.

OP, I feel you! I tried making vitamin C gummies for my kids once and they melted into a sticky mess. Gelatin can be tricky - did you bloom it first? Also, collagen powder might need to be dissolved completely in warm liquid before mixing. But tbh, I'm skeptical about homemade supplements... how do you know the dosage is right? Store-bought ones are tested for safety.

GreenGreg is right! Agar is the way to go - it sets firmer than gelatin anyway. I make mine with pomegranate juice, agar, and a vegan algae-based omega powder. They come out perfect every time! Plus, animal collagen is just marketing hype. Your body doesn't absorb it well anyway. Save the animals and your money!

Thanks for the tips! Didn't realize agar might work better - gonna try that next. And yeah, maybe I'll skip the collagen powder... any recommendations for vegan alternatives that still support skin health? Also MindfulMila, good point about dosage - I was just eyeballing it, lol. Maybe I'll stick to flavor experiments and leave the vitamins to the pros!
