THREAD: DIY Collagen Gummies Disaster - Help with Homemade Recipe!Started by OP

Hey everyone, tried making collagen gummies at home last night and it was a total fail. Used gelatin, some collagen powder I had, and a bit of vitamin C powder. They came out rubbery and weirdly separated - like the powder didn't mix in right. Anyone have a good recipe or tips? Really wanted to save some cash instead of buying the premade ones.

Fascinating experiment! The separation issue is likely due to improper emulsification. Collagen peptides are hydrophilic, but gelatin needs proper hydration first. Try blooming your gelatin in cold water for 5-10 minutes before heating. Also, mix your powders with a small amount of liquid (like juice) before adding to the gelatin base - this creates a suspension that incorporates better. What temperature did you heat to? Gelatin denatures above 140°F.

Honestly, this is why I stick to food. You're playing chemist with supplements that probably don't even absorb properly in gummy form. Those store-bought ones are mostly sugar and marketing. If you want collagen, just eat some bone broth. But if you're determined... maybe try agar instead? At least it's plant-based.

Bro I feel you on saving money - these supplement companies charge insane prices! I've made protein gummies before. Key is to blend the powders SUPER fine before mixing. Use a blender or coffee grinder. Also add a tiny bit of sunflower lecithin as an emulsifier (got mine on Amazon). Mine came out decent, but honestly the convenience of just buying them might be worth it for consistency. How much collagen per gummy were you aiming for?

Thanks for the tips everyone! @TeaTina592 I didn't bloom the gelatin first - that might be it. Heated it pretty hot, maybe too hot. @VitalVince388 I know what you mean but I like having them as a snack. @IvyIron Was aiming for about 5g collagen per serving (like 2 gummies). The lecithin idea is smart. Gonna try again this weekend with these tips!
