Is this collagen gummy study legit or just hype?
Hey everyone! Just came across this study (PMID: 34567890) claiming that collagen peptides from gummies significantly improve skin elasticity in 8 weeks. It was funded by a supplement company though. What do you all think? Legit or biased?
Great find! I checked the PMID - it's a small sample size (n=40) and no placebo control. The funding source is a red flag. But the outcomes measured are standard. I'd say preliminary but not conclusive. Need more independent studies.
Honestly, I don't trust any studies funded by big pharma or supplement companies. Our bodies know how to make collagen if we give it the right nutrients - vitamin C, silica, and bone broth. Gummies are just processed junk.
As a retired nurse, I've seen studies flip-flop all the time. I'd wait for a meta-analysis or systematic review. But anecdotally, I've had patients swear by collagen gummies for joint pain. Could be placebo, could be real.
