THREAD: Collagen Gummies - Are They Just a Sweet Treat or Actually Work?Started by MountainMike

Hey everyone, I've been seeing these collagen gummies everywhere lately. As someone who runs on caffeine and doesn't always eat the best, I'm wondering if they could help with my joint pain after long hikes. Has anyone actually tried them? I'm skeptical because they taste like candy - seems too good to be true!

Great question, Mike! From a scientific perspective, collagen is a protein that supports skin, hair, nails, and joints. The bioavailability of collagen peptides in gummy form is debated though. I've been taking a hydrolyzed collagen powder for 3 months and noticed improved skin elasticity. Gummies often have added sugars and lower collagen content - have you checked the dosage per serving?

I actually started taking collagen gummies about 2 months ago! Working night shifts really messes with my skin and energy levels. I chose gummies because they're easy to remember with my chaotic schedule. I've noticed my nails are stronger and don't break as easily. The berry flavor ones I get are delicious - makes it feel like a little treat during my breaks. Anyone have brand recommendations?

Nancy, you're right about checking the dosage - I just looked at a popular brand and it's only 2.5g per serving while powders have 10g+. DewyDaphne, which brand are you using? I might give them a shot if they helped your nails. Do they make you feel any different energy-wise? I'm always looking for something to complement my coffee addiction!

Daphne, that's interesting about your nails! The science suggests collagen can support nail growth. Mike - if you're concerned about joints, you might want to combine collagen with vitamin C (helps collagen synthesis) and consider the powder form for higher dosage. But if gummies help with consistency, that's valuable too. What's everyone's experience with price vs. results?

I use the Vital Proteins gummies, Mike! They're a bit pricey ($25 for 60 count) but last me a month. I haven't noticed huge energy changes, but my skin does look less tired (hard to quantify though!). For my night shift routine, the convenience is worth it. Nancy makes a good point about vitamin C - I take mine with orange juice sometimes. Has anyone tried making their own collagen gummies? Saw some recipes online...
