Traveling with collagen gummies - will they melt? TSA? Help!
Hey everyone! I'm going on a road trip next week and then flying to a hiking spot. I take collagen gummies daily for my joints (CrossFit life!), and I'm worried about them melting in the car/plane. Anyone have experience? Also, will TSA give me crap about them? They're in a big jar. Tips for storage? Thanks!
Yo Wendy! I've traveled with gummies before. TSA might pull you aside if they're in a big container, but usually they swab them and let you go. As for melting, depends on the brand. If they're gelatin-based, they can get sticky. I'd suggest putting them in a cooler bag or at least a ziplock in your carry-on. Don't leave them in a hot car! I made that mistake with some DIY fruit snacks and they became a blob. lol.
OMG the melting is real! I brought some collagen gummies to Florida and they turned into a gummy puddle. Taste was still OK but texture was gross. For TSA, I put them in a clear bag and they didn't even look twice. But if you're hiking, maybe transfer to a smaller container so they don't get squished. Also, check if your brand has a 'travel-friendly' version. Some are more heat-resistant.
Thanks guys! I'll definitely put them in a cooler bag for the car and maybe a ziplock for the plane. @BerryBen did you have them in your carry-on or checked? I'm worried about pressure changes too.
Pressure changes aren't a big deal for gummies, but if they're in a sealed jar, the lid might pop. Just burp the container before you fly. And yeah, carry-on is better so they don't get cooked in the cargo hold. Safe travels!
