Edible Landscaping: Yay or Nay?
Ok this is awesome! I've been saying this for years. Why have a boring lawn when you can have a garden that feeds you? I bet elderberries would be perfect for this - they're pretty, they're native, and the berries are packed with antioxidants! Plus the birds love them too. Definitely thinking about replacing some of my front flower bed with elderberry bushes now.
I mean, sure, if you have the time and space. But edible plants can be high maintenance. You gotta worry about pests, weather, and harvesting at the right time. Not to mention if you live in an HOA, they might not be too happy about a front yard full of vegetables. Seems like more trouble than it's worth for a few snacks. I'll stick to my supplements.
Love this! 🌿 I've already started a small edible garden in my backyard - herbs, tomatoes, and some berry bushes. It's so rewarding to eat what you grow! And it's a great conversation starter. I might add elderberries next spring, they have so many health benefits. Plus, you can make delicious syrups and teas. I say go for it!
DewyDaphne504, that's awesome! Do you have any tips for someone new to edible landscaping? I'm a bit worried about deer and rabbits eating everything. Also, what elderberry variety do you recommend for a beginner?
