Just read this new study (PMID: 37456789) on elderberry extract. It claims that taking it daily reduces cold duration by 30% and severity by 40%. Sounds too good to be true? Anyone else seen this? Is it legit or just another marketing ploy?

I've been using elderberry syrup every winter for years and I swear it helps! But I'm always skeptical of studies funded by supplement companies. Did they disclose who funded it? I see those 'randomized double-blind' headlines all the time, but they often use small sample sizes. Anyway, if it works for me, I'll keep taking it, but I won't hold my breath for a miracle cure.

Yeah, I've seen that study. It's interesting, but I always look at the source. If it's published in a journal like 'Nutrients' or 'Phytomedicine', it might be peer-reviewed, but still, many studies have conflicts of interest. I'd check who funded it and if they used a standardized extract or just concentrated juice. Also, the effect size might be small in practice. I'd recommend looking at the actual numbers and not just the headline. But hey, if it's safe and you like it, go for it. I personally stack it with zinc and vitamin C, but I never skip my probiotics either.

Good point, Hacker. I did a quick search - it was funded by a company that sells elderberry gummies. Red flag for me. I'll stick to my keto diet and maybe just use honey and lemon when I feel a cold coming on. Thanks for the reality check, guys.

Haha, honey is underrated! But honestly, if you want the benefits without the sugar, you can get organic elderberry extract and make your own gummies at home. It's easy and you control the ingredients. I've been doing that for a while - no additives, just elderberry, gelatin, and a little stevia. It's become a fun weekend project for me. Just a thought!
