Hey folks, just came across this study (PMID: 12345678) about elderberry extract reducing cold duration by 2-3 days in adults. The research was funded by a supplement company though... What do you all think? As a retired nurse, I've seen elderberry work anecdotally with patients, but funding sources always make me pause.

Ugh, another supplement study with industry ties. I'm so tired of this. As a mom, I want real evidence before giving anything to my kids. Liam - did the study have a control group? Proper blinding? Small sample size? I'm automatically skeptical when companies fund their own 'research'.

Good questions Quinn. It was randomized and double-blind with about 200 participants, which is decent. Placebo group showed improvement too, just less. The mechanism they propose (antiviral properties) aligns with older research I recall. Still, you're right to be cautious - I'd want to see independent replication.

but like... sometimes science doesn't capture everything?? my aunt swears by elderberry syrup and she hasn't been sick in years. maybe we're overthinking this? just listen to your body's wisdom 💫
