Which flavor is the best? Love the mixed berry but can't stand the orange!
Okay, so I’ve been taking these elderberry gummies for a few months now, and I really like the mixed berry flavor. But I grabbed a bottle of the orange by mistake last week and holy moly, it tastes like medicine mixed with regret. I don’t want to waste money on another dud. What’s the consensus? Which flavor should I get next time? I need something that won’t make my kids gag either.
From a formulation standpoint, flavor doesn’t affect efficacy, but I get the taste issue. The strawberry is pretty neutral and most people seem to tolerate it well. I’ve seen some studies suggesting that elderberry itself has a tart note that can clash with citrus. Mixed berry is usually a safe bet, but if you want variety, try the pomegranate—it’s less sweet and masks the earthy aftertaste.
Thanks KaleKen! Pomegranate sounds promising. My kids are super picky though. Do you know if the pomegranate has a strong flavor? My youngest spit out the orange and now refuses to take any gummy. Trying to avoid a nightly battle.
It’s not overpowering, but compared to mixed berry it’s a bit more tart. Maybe let your kid sniff it first? Alternatively, you could crush the gummy and mix it into yogurt—that’s what I do with my nephew. He hates the texture anyway. But if you go with strawberry, it’s universally bland but inoffensive.
