My toddler thinks fiber gummies are candy - help!

So I started giving my 4-year-old fiber gummies because he's been a little backed up lately. BIG mistake! Now he thinks they're candy and keeps sneaking into the cabinet to grab more. Yesterday I caught him with the bottle behind the couch, munching away like it's a secret snack stash. Anyone else deal with this? How do I explain these aren't treats without him refusing them entirely?

Oh man, this takes me back! When my kids were little, we had the same issue with vitamin C gummies. They'd call them 'mommy's special candy.' What worked for us was making it a routine - one gummy after breakfast, no exceptions. We kept them up high (like, really high) and made it clear they're 'health helpers,' not snacks. Took a few weeks, but they got it. Now my teens still take their gummies without fuss!

Interesting! From a behavioral science perspective, you're dealing with classical conditioning - the sweet taste triggers a 'candy' association. Try pairing the gummy with a non-sweet activity (like right before tooth-brushing) to break that link. Also, check the sugar content - some brands use sugar alcohols that can cause digestive issues if overconsumed. What's the brand you're using? Might help to compare ingredients.

Blessings! This is why I always recommend whole food sources first. The body recognizes real fiber from fruits and veggies more naturally. That said, if you're sticking with gummies, try making it a mindful moment - have your child hold the gummy, smell it, and think about how it helps their tummy before eating. It creates respect for the supplement. Also, chamomile tea can help with digestion if they resist the gummies!

Honestly, this is why I avoid gummies entirely - too much like candy and often packed with hidden carbs/sugars that don't fit a clean lifestyle. Have you tried ground flaxseed in their food? Zero sweetness, tons of fiber, and they won't even know it's there. My keto kids get their fiber from avocados and chia pudding. Just a thought if the gummy battle gets too real!
