THREAD: Fiber Gummies - Do they actually help with digestion or just taste good?Started by DewyDaphne

Hey everyone, night shift worker here! I've been struggling with irregular digestion since I started working 7pm-3am shifts. My eating schedule is all over the place, and I'm lucky if I remember to eat vegetables. I saw these fiber gummies at the store and thought they might help. Has anyone tried them? Do they actually work for digestive issues, or are they just candy with fancy packaging? I'm worried about spending money on something that won't help my bloating and sluggishness.

Skeptical mom chiming in! I've seen these everywhere, and honestly, they look like glorified gummy bears to me. My kids would probably eat them thinking they're candy. I checked the ingredients on one brand - lots of added sugars and artificial flavors. Why not just eat an apple or some chia seeds? Real food always beats supplements in my book. Plus, the price is ridiculous - $15 for a month's supply when a bag of oats costs $3. Anyone have actual scientific evidence they work?

Meditation rookie here! I've been trying to improve my overall wellness routine, and I actually bought some fiber gummies last month. I struggle with getting enough fiber because I'm not great at meal planning. The gummies are convenient - I keep them by my meditation cushion and take them after my morning session. I've noticed less bloating, but I'm not sure if it's the gummies or just drinking more water (which I'm also doing). They do taste pretty good though - like berry candy!

Thanks for the input! BioBob47, that's interesting about the convenience factor. As a night shifter, I need things that are easy to remember. HealthHacker, I hear you on the sugar concern - I checked my brand and it has 3g per serving. Not terrible, but not great either. Has anyone experienced any side effects? I read that too much fiber too quickly can cause... unpleasantness. Also, do they help with feeling full? I tend to snack a lot during my breaks.

DewyDaphne, exactly my point about the sugar! And yes, ramping up fiber too quickly can definitely cause gas and discomfort. That's why I prefer whole foods - your body adjusts naturally. If you do try them, start with half the recommended dose. As for feeling full - fiber should help with satiety, but those gummies are tiny. A handful of almonds or an apple would probably work better for snacking. Has anyone compared different brands? I've seen some with probiotics added - marketing gimmick or actually useful?

Good advice about starting slow, HealthHacker! I did have some gas the first week, but it settled down. I'm using the regular kind without probiotics. DewyDaphne, they do help me feel a bit fuller between meals, but not as much as a proper snack. The biggest benefit for me is just knowing I'm getting some fiber when I otherwise wouldn't. Maybe try a small bottle first? The store brand was only $8 for me. Anyone else have experience with how they affect energy levels? I feel like my digestion being better gives me more consistent energy for my meditation practice.
