Traveling with Fiber Gummies: Melt Risk & TSA Tips?
Hey all! Heading on a 3-week trip (plane + hiking) and want to bring my fiber gummies. Do they melt in checked luggage? And any TSA issues with carry-on? They're not liquid, but I've heard gummies can be tricky. What's the best way to pack them?
I've flown with gummies before. TSA doesn't really care about solid food, but they can get flagged if they look like drugs lol. Keep them in the original container if possible. As for melting, they can soften in heat, so avoid leaving them in a hot car. For hiking, maybe use a small pill organizer or zip bag, but keep them cool. I'd put them in a carry-on with an ice pack if you're worried.
I've got a tech solution! Get a small insulated pouch (like for insulin) and a reusable ice pack. That'll keep them from melting in your backpack. Also, check the TSA app – I think food is fine, but they might ask to inspect if you have a lot. And for hiking, consider that gummies can get squished, so maybe a hard case is better.
From a medical perspective, gummies are not as stable as tablets. Heat and humidity can affect them. I'd suggest transferring to a container that's not airtight (to prevent moisture) but keep them cool and dry. Also, if you're hiking, maybe consider electrolytes or other alternatives if they're not essential. But if you must, they should be fine in a carry-on – TSA allows solids. Just don't put them in checked luggage because cargo holds can get very hot.
