THREAD: DIY Gummy Vitamin Disaster - Help with Homemade Gummies Using Vitamin Powders!Started by NootropicNoah992

Hey everyone! So I've been trying to make my own gummy vitamins at home using gelatin and some vitamin C & D powders I got online. My first batch turned into a weird rubbery blob that wouldn't set properly - it's like chewy jello soup! ๐Ÿ˜… I remember back in the day when I first started blogging about supplements, homemade stuff was all the rage. Anyone have tips on ratios or troubleshooting? I used 1 tbsp gelatin to 1 cup juice with 1 tsp vitamin powder mixed in.

Oh I feel your pain! I've been experimenting with agar agar instead of gelatin for my vegan gummy attempts. The key is temperature control - if your liquid is too hot when you add the vitamin powder, it can denature and get clumpy. Also, are you blooming your gelatin first in cold liquid? That makes a huge difference! I'd start with 1/4 tsp vitamin powder per cup and work up slowly. Too much powder = weird texture city.

Beautiful attempt! Nature teaches us patience with these things ๐ŸŒฟ I photograph mushrooms and berries for my blog, and I've noticed natural pectin from fruits helps gelling. Maybe try adding some mashed berries? The colors would be gorgeous in photos! Also, are you using silicone molds? My first batch stuck terribly to plastic ones - lesson learned!

Okay but real talk - are we sure this is safe? I'm a mom of three and I'd be worried about dosage consistency. Store-bought gummies like GOLI are tested for exact amounts. With homemade, one gummy could have way more vitamins than another. Not trying to be negative, just practical! Have you considered just buying them? The apple cider vinegar ones are actually pretty tasty according to my kids (who are picky about everything).

Great points everyone! Ellen - I didn't bloom the gelatin first, that might be it! Jack - love the berry idea for natural color (and antioxidants!). Ken - totally valid concern about dosing. I'm mostly doing this for fun/blog content rather than serious supplementation. Maybe I'll make a small test batch with Ellen's temp tips and Jack's berry suggestion. Will report back! Thanks all ๐Ÿ’ช
