THREAD: DIY Gummy Vitamin Recipe Help - My Batch Came Out Weird!Started by OP

Hey everyone, I'm trying to make my own gummy vitamins at home to save some cash instead of buying GOLI or other brands. I used gelatin, some vitamin C powder, and a multivitamin blend I had. But they turned out super rubbery and the taste is awful - like chalky medicine. Anyone have a good recipe or tips? I heated everything on low and poured into molds, but maybe my ratios were off?

OP, I've been doing this for a while! Gelatin can be tricky. You gotta bloom it first in cold water for 5-10 mins before heating. Also, what liquid did you use? I use fruit juice instead of water - masks the vitamin taste better. And don't overheat! Keep it under 160°F or the vitamins degrade. My go-to ratio: 1/2 cup juice, 2 tbsp gelatin, 1 tsp vitamin powder. Add a little honey or stevia if you want sweetness.

Honestly, why bother? You're probably destroying the nutrient bioavailability by heating it. Most vitamins are sensitive to heat and light. Plus, homemade batches won't have consistent dosing - you could be getting 10mg in one gummy and 50mg in another. Just buy a reputable brand if you're actually serious about supplements. This DIY stuff is a waste of time and money.

Vince has a point about consistency, but if you're determined: research suggests agar-agar might be better than gelatin for heat-sensitive compounds. It sets at room temp. I've compiled some studies on nutrient stability in gummy matrices - key factors are pH (aim for 4-5), antioxidant addition (like a little citric acid), and using oil-soluble vitamins in an emulsified form. Also, consider using a small kitchen scale for precise powder measurement rather than volume.

Bro I tried this last month! Added some collagen peptides and ashwagandha to mine. They came out okay but the texture was off. Steve's juice tip helps A LOT. I used tart cherry juice for inflammation. Also, maybe add a tiny bit of coconut oil? Saw that in a YouTube vid. But yeah, they'll never be as perfect as GOLI's apple cider vinegar gummies. Those things are elite for recovery.
