Hey everyone! I'm trying to make my own gummies for my kids using gelatin and vitamin powder (they're super picky about taking vitamins). I followed a recipe I found online but they came out way too hard and kinda rubbery. Does anyone have a good recipe or tips? I used 2 tbsp gelatin, 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup honey, and a vitamin powder mix. I heated it all but maybe not enough? Help!

First off, homemade gummies are a cool idea but you gotta be careful with vitamin powders - some don't mix well. But your issue sounds like you didn't hydrate the gelatin properly. Gelatin needs to 'bloom' in cold water for about 10 mins before heating. Also, too much gelatin will make them stiff. Maybe reduce to 1.5 tbsp. And honey can interfere with setting - try using fruit juice instead. What vitamin powder are you using? Some have acids that break down gelatin.

I'm not into vitamins but I make protein gummies with a silicone mold. Your ratio seems off - try 1 tbsp gelatin per 1 cup liquid. And make sure you're not boiling the mixture - that destroys the gelling power. Low heat, keep stirring. Also, pour into molds and refrigerate at least 4 hours. You might want to invest in a kitchen scale for accuracy. And check your vitamin powder - if it has vitamin C, it can mess with the set.

Thanks for the replies! I used a kids multi-vitamin powder from the store - it has vitamin C, so that's probably it. I didn't know vitamin C messes with gelatin. I've got some agar powder too - would that work better? I want to avoid buying new stuff if possible. Also, my batch came out like gummy bears texture, but stuck to the mold. Should I oil the mold or use something else?
