DIY Kids Gummies: My first batch turned into jelly soup!
So i tried making gummies for my daughter using agar and some vitamin C powder. Followed a recipe but they came out like slime. Any tips? Maybe less water? Or should i switch to gelatin? Kids are picky so I need them chewy not gooey.
Agar is tricky! Gelatin is more forgiving for beginners. With agar you need to boil it longer and use exact ratios. For kids I'd go with gelatin, just make sure to bloom it properly. Also vitamin powders can change the pH affect setting.
I feel you, man. Tried agar once and it was a disaster. Now I use gelatin from grass-fed cows. Pro tip: use a candy thermometer to hit 240°F or they won't set. Also, add some fruit juice for flavor and the kids love it.
Gelatin is great but if you want vegan, agar works. Try 1 tsp agar powder per 1 cup liquid, boil for 5 min, then pour into molds and fridge for 2 hours. Also, vitamin C can break down gelling so add after cooling a bit.
