Gummies turned into rocks?! Safe to eat?
Hey all, new here. So I bought a bottle of gummy vitamins for my kids last week, and I just opened it today. They've gotten super hard, like little rocks, and some are stuck together. Is this normal? Are they still safe to eat? They haven't expired or anything.
Oh my! That's a classic case of sugar bloom or just moisture loss. Happens to gummies when they're not stored properly. It's mostly a texture thing, not a safety issue. I've had gummies do that when left in a hot car. If they taste okay, they're likely fine to eat. But for kids, might be a choking hazard if too hard. You can try putting them in a warm place to soften? Just don't microwave them! Lol.
Hey! I'm a wellness influencer and I've seen this a bunch. As CrystalCathy said, it's just sugar crystallization. The vitamins are still potent, but if they're unpleasantly hard, you can put them in a sealed container with a slice of bread for a day to restore moisture. Or just return them if you're not comfortable. But safety-wise, they're not toxic. Still, check for any weird smell or mold, then decide.
Thanks y'all! I might try the bread trick. But if they're okay, I'll still give them to my kids. I'll just make sure they chew real good. Appreciate the help!
