Help! My kids' gummies turned into a sticky brick - are they still safe??

Hey everyone, I bought a big bottle of those organic kids' gummy vitamins from Costco about 3 months ago. My kids only take them occasionally, so the bottle is still half full. I just went to grab one and they're all stuck together in a giant clump, some are hard as rocks, and a few have white specks on them. They also look darker than when I bought them. Are they still safe to eat? I hate to waste them but don't want to poison my kids. TIA!

White specks? That's sugar bloom or mold. If it's sugar bloom, it's safe but may be less potent. If it's mold, toss 'em. Also, gummies sticking together usually means moisture got in. Did you store them in the bathroom or somewhere humid? For safety, I'd just buy a new bottle. Not worth the risk. Plus, most kids' gummies are loaded with sugar and artificial stuff anyway. Have you tried switching to a sugar-free option? Much better for their teeth and overall health.

Oh man, this brings back memories! My mom used to give us those Flintstones vitamins and they'd always get stuck together. She'd just shake the bottle really hard and we'd eat them anyway. We turned out fine... mostly lol. But seriously, if they're hard and discolored, I'd be cautious. Maybe call the manufacturer? They might have a recall or can tell you if it's normal. Also, check the expiration date. If it's past, definitely toss.

From a nature photographer's perspective, I've seen how humidity and temperature swings can wreak havoc on natural ingredients. Those white specks could be crystallization of sugars or acids, which is harmless, but without a microscope, you can't be sure. If they smell off or have any fuzzy texture, bin them. I'd also consider storing them in the fridge after opening to prevent clumping. But yeah, when in doubt, throw it out. Health first!

Thanks for the replies! I checked and they expired last month, so I'm just gonna toss them. I'll look into sugar-free options, VitalVince. And WaterWillow, I'll try the shake method next time, lol. QuantumQuincy93, good tip about the fridge. Appreciate the help!
