Help! My kids' gummies turned into rocks overnight!
Okay so I bought a new bottle of these strawberry gummies for my 6yo, and after just a week theyve gone from soft and chewy to hard little pebbles. Some have white spots on them (sugar bloom?) and a few are stuck together. Are these safe to eat? My kid is picky and i hate wasting money but... worried.
Ugh, the struggle is real! That sounds like temperature fluctuation or maybe moisture got in. I've def seen that with cheap gummies. If they're just hard and a little bloomed, they're probably safe, but I'd toss 'em if they smell weird or have mold. Better safe than sorry with kiddos!
Yeah, what Nancy said. The white spots are likely sugar or crystal bloom — harmless, just cosmetic. Hard texture means they lost moisture. Not ideal but not dangerous. Still, if the kid refuses, it's a waste. I'd keep the next bottle in a cool, dry place.
Whoa, that sounds like a reaction to humidity or heat. I've had that with my electrolyte gummies. Personally, I'd check the expiration date and contact the company — maybe it's a bad batch. But as others said, likely not toxic. Trust your nose and eyes!
From a scientist-y perspective: sugar bloom is just recrystallization, safe. Hardening is water loss, also safe. But if you see any liquid or mold, trash it. For the future, store them in the fridge (in a sealed bag) — it slows down bloom and keeps them chewy longer.
