Kids Gummies = Candy? Sugar content is INSANE!

I was at the store looking for some vitamins for my kid and I picked up a bottle of those popular kids gummies. I couldn't believe my eyes when I flipped it over. 2 grams of sugar per gummy! And the serving size is TWO gummies. That's 4 grams of sugar. For a kid. That's basically a piece of candy. No wonder kids are hooked on these things. It's just candy-fication of supplements. We need to go back to pure, sugar-free options. Anyone else concerned about this?

OMG yes. I have a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old and getting them to take vitamins is a NIGHTMARE. The only thing that works is the gummies. I know they have sugar but honestly, I'm just happy they're getting some vitamins. I don't have the energy to fight them every morning. Plus, my pediatrician said it's fine as long as they brush their teeth. But yeah, the sugar content is not great. I try to give them the ones with less sugar but they're picky.

I'm a nature photographer and I spend a lot of time outdoors with my kids. I prefer to get vitamins from natural sources, like fruits and veggies. But I get it, sometimes you need a supplement. Have you tried the sugar-free gummies? They exist but they often have artificial sweeteners which I'm not a fan of. It's a trade-off. I think moderation is key. If my kids eat a gummy vitamin, I just make sure they don't have other sweets that day. Also, check the label for added colors and flavors. Some of those are worse than the sugar.

LunarLily72, I agree that artificial sweeteners are also a concern. But sugar is sugar. And for kids, it's setting them up for a lifetime of sugar cravings. I think we should be teaching them to take vitamins without the candy coating. There are chewable tablets that are sugar-free. Maybe try those? But I know, kids can be stubborn. Still, I think we're doing them a disservice by making supplements taste like candy.

XenonX445, I see your point but you're not the one dealing with a tantrum at 7am because the vitamin isn't the right color. I'll pick my battles. At least they're getting the vitamins. And honestly, a few grams of sugar is not the end of the world. It's better than them not getting any vitamins at all. But I do wish there were better options that are both healthy and kid-approved.
