My kid's gummies turned into a rock - safe to eat?
Hey everyone! I bought a bottle of kids' multivitamin gummies a couple months ago and they were fine. But when I opened them today they were all clumped together, hard as a rock, and some had white stuff on them. Are these safe to give to my kids? The bottle says best by 2024. Thanks!
Ugh same thing happened to me with a bottle I got on sale. I think it's just sugar bloom (that white stuff) and they got hard because of moisture or temp changes. Should be safe but they probably taste nasty. I'd chuck 'em and get a fresh bottle, they're cheap enough.
IMO better safe than sorry. The texture change could mean they lost potency or something. If they're hard and stuck together, maybe the gelatin degraded? I wouldn't risk it for kids. Just buy new ones.
I've eaten gummies that looked like that lol. The white stuff is just sugar crystallizing, not mold. They tasted a bit stale but didn't hurt. Pro tip: store them in a cool dry place, or even fridge. But yeah, for kids maybe play it safe?
