THREAD: Kids Gummies - Are They Just Sugar or Actually Beneficial?Started by FitnessFanatic45

Hey everyone, as a nature photographer, I'm always on the go and trying to stay healthy. I've been seeing these kids gummies everywhere - vitamins, probiotics, even melatonin for sleep. My niece loves them, but I'm skeptical. Are they really effective or just candy in disguise? I worry about all the added sugars and artificial colors. Has anyone done any research on this?

As a busy professional with two young kids, I can share my experience. We've been using vitamin C and zinc gummies during cold season for about a year now. Honestly, they've been a game-changer for getting my kids to take their supplements without the morning battles. Yes, they contain some sugar, but we use brands with natural sweeteners like stevia. The key is moderation and checking labels. What specific concerns do you have, FitnessFanatic45?

Early adopter here - I've tried EVERYTHING! My kids have been through probiotic gummies, omega-3 gummies, even fiber gummies (those were... interesting). The probiotic ones actually seemed to help with my daughter's digestion issues. But you're right to be cautious - some brands are basically candy. Look for third-party testing seals and avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup. Anyone tried the new elderberry immune gummies?

Thanks for the input! RhinoRich, that's helpful about the third-party testing. FitnessFanatic, how do you balance the sugar content with dental health? My niece already has enough sweets. Also, has anyone noticed if the melatonin gummies actually help kids sleep, or is it placebo effect? I'm photographing wildlife at dawn, so I understand the importance of good sleep!

Great question about dental health! We always have the kids brush immediately after taking gummies, and we limit them to one per day. As for melatonin - we used it briefly when traveling across time zones. It seemed to help reset their sleep schedule, but our pediatrician warned against regular use. She said it's better to establish good sleep habits naturally. Maybe try chamomile tea instead?

Melatonin gummies worked wonders for my son during daylight saving time transitions, but we only use them short-term. Back to the sugar issue - there are now sugar-free options using xylitol (which is actually good for teeth!). The new trend is 'functional gummies' with adaptogens for stress. Too advanced for kids maybe, but interesting development. FitnessFanatic45, as a nature photographer, would you trust gummies with natural fruit extracts over synthetic vitamins?
