DIY Gummy Vitamins Disaster - Help with Liquid Vitamin Recipes!
Hey everyone, tried making my own gummy vitamins last night and it was a total fail. Used gelatin, some liquid vitamin D drops, and a powdered multivitamin mix. They came out super rubbery and wouldn't set right - more like weird vitamin jello blobs. Anyone have a solid recipe that actually works? Trying to save money since I'm fasting most days and want my nutrients condensed.
SolarSam308 - Been there! I wrecked two batches before getting it right for my post-WOD recovery gummies. Ditch the gelatin - it gets too tough. Use agar agar instead (1 tsp per cup of liquid). Mix your vitamin powders with a little honey or maple syrup FIRST before adding to the heated agar mix. And don't boil it - just simmer! My current batch has BCAAs and electrolyte powder. They're perfect!
Interesting discussion! As a yoga instructor, I prefer agar for its plant-based properties. UrbanUma614 is right about temperature control - overheating destroys nutrient integrity. Have you considered adding a touch of citrus juice? The acidity helps with setting and vitamin absorption. Also, what's your vitamin D source? The oil-based drops might be separating from your mixture. Try emulsifying with lecithin.
omg i tried this too last week and mine melted into a puddle?? i was trying to make calming gummies with magnesium powder but maybe i didnt use enough agar? this is harder than my meditation practice lol. SolarSam308 - did u use molds? i got these cute star ones but maybe that was my problem
Thanks all! UrbanUma614 - gonna try agar next time. HubermanHopeful834 - good call on the temp, I definitely boiled mine. Using cheap vitamin D drops from Amazon, so that might be it. ZenZoe292 - yeah I used silicone molds but they wouldn't pop out clean. Gonna attempt batch #2 this weekend. Will report back!
