Flying with gummy vitamins – will they melt?
Headed on a 10-day hiking trip in the Rockies, flying out tomorrow. I take these gummy multivitamins and also some melatonin gummies. Anyone have experience with them in carry-on? Do they melt in the heat? Worried about TSA giving me a hard time too.
I've traveled with gummies loads of times! They're fine as long as you keep them in a cool place. I usually put them in a small zip bag inside my backpack. TSA doesn't care, they see supplements all the time. But if you're worried about melting, maybe get the travel-friendly tubes some brands sell? Or just pop them in a cooler bag.
From a medical perspective, gummy vitamins can indeed soften or melt if exposed to high temps for long. Short flights are usually okay, but if you're hiking in direct sun, consider storing them in an insulated bag. Also, TSA allows supplements in pill form, no liquid restrictions. Keep them in original bottles if you want to be extra safe. Have a great trip!
Eco tip: ditch the single-use plastic bottles! I use reusable silicone travel containers for my gummies. They're lightweight, seal tight, and you can label them. Also, for hiking, I freeze my gummies overnight before leaving – they take a few hours to thaw and stay firm longer. Just make sure they're in a waterproof bag so condensation doesn't ruin them.
Thanks all! The freezing trick sounds genius, RhinoRich. I'll try that. And good to know TSA doesn't mind. Feeling a lot more confident now!
