Sugar or Convenience? Liquid Vitamins Debate

I've been looking into liquid vitamins for my kids, but I'm shocked at the sugar content in most brands! It's like they've just made candy with a few vitamins thrown in. I mean, why can't we have healthy supplements that don't taste like dessert? My kids already get enough sugar, I don't want to add more in their vitamins. Is there any brand that's actually healthy and convenient?

I feel you, PlantPat! It's frustrating. I remember a few years ago I tried a liquid vitamin that was basically syrup. I had to stop because it spiked my blood sugar and made me feel jittery. But I've found some good ones that are sweetened with stevia or monk fruit. It takes some label reading, but they exist. Also, some companies make gummies with less sugar or use sugar alcohols, but they mess with my stomach. For me, it's about finding a balance between convenience and clean ingredients. My yoga students often ask about this too.

Honestly, as a dad of three, I need convenience. If it's a choice between a messy liquid that tastes like a multivitamin (ugh) and a tasty gummy that the kids actually want, I'll take the gummy. Yeah, they have sugar, but they're eating veggies maybe twice a week. I'm not perfect, and I'd rather they get their vitamins. I've seen too many kids with deficiencies. Plus, we brush their teeth religiously. And for myself, I just chug a liquid vitamin from a health food store that has no added sugar, but it's gross. Trade-offs, you know?

As a yoga instructor, I emphasize mindfulness, including nutrition. I think the candy-fication of supplements is a slippery slope. It teaches kids that vitamins are treats, not medicine. I always recommend whole foods first, but if you need a supplement, look for liquid drops that are just vitamins and maybe some natural fruit extract for taste. I use a liquid vitamin from a brand that uses a tiny bit of stevia, and my kids love it. It's a bit more costly, but worth it. Also, consider giving your kids a spoonful of something sour like lemon water after to help with the taste and balance the sugar load if you do use a sweeter one. Just my two cents.
