THREAD: Traveling with gummy vitamins - do they melt? TSA rules?Started by OP

Hey everyone! I'm planning a big trip next month - flying to Colorado, then doing some road tripping and hiking in the mountains. I take my daily gummy vitamins religiously (multivitamin and vitamin D) and I'm worried about them melting or getting ruined during travel. Has anyone traveled with gummies before? Do they melt in checked luggage or carry-ons? What about TSA rules - can I bring them in my carry-on? Any storage tips would be awesome!

Great question! As a fitness pro who travels for competitions, I've dealt with this a lot. Gummies can definitely get soft or melt if they get too warm. I always keep mine in my carry-on (TSA allows vitamins in both checked and carry-on, no liquid restrictions since they're solid). Pro tip: put them in a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack if you're worried about heat. Also, the altitude changes on planes can sometimes make the packaging puff up, but the gummies themselves are usually fine. I've never had mine melt completely, but they can get sticky in hot cars!

Oh I feel you! As a parent, I'm always packing gummy vitamins for my kids when we travel. TSA has never given me trouble - I just keep them in their original bottle so the labels are visible. For road trips, I put them in the cooler with our snacks. For hiking, I use a small airtight container and keep them in the shade. One time I left a bottle in a hot car and they all stuck together into one big gummy blob lol - still edible but messy! Maybe consider getting a travel-sized bottle so you don't have to bring the whole big container?

Biohacker perspective: Temperature degradation is real. Most gummies start losing potency above 85°F. If you're serious about maintaining efficacy, get a small thermoelectric cooler for travel - they're USB powered. TSA-wise, you're fine as others said. Alternative: switch to capsule forms for travel weeks? More stable. But if you're committed to gummies, vacuum seal them with a silica packet to prevent moisture absorption during altitude changes. Data point: I've tracked my supplement blood levels during travel and found gummies underperform when exposed to heat cycles.

Nature photographer here - I'm always on the road chasing shots! I keep my gummies in a small dry bag inside my camera bag. The camera gear stays temperature controlled, so it works perfectly. For hiking, I wrap the bottle in a bandana and keep it in the middle of my pack (not against my back where body heat warms it). Never had TSA issues in 10+ years of travel. Funny story: once in the desert, my gummies got so soft I could mold them like play-doh! Still ate them though 😂 Safe travels!
