Are my magnesium gummies still safe? Color changed and got hard
Hey everyone, I bought these magnesium gummies about 2 months ago and they've changed color from light yellow to brownish, and they're rock hard. Some have a white powder on them. Are they still okay to eat? I really don't want to waste them.
The white powder is sugar bloom, happens when moisture gets to them. The hardness is probably from drying out. I wouldn't risk it, especially with magnesium citrate gummies - they can degrade and change potency. Better to toss and get new ones. Store them in a cool dry place next time.
I agree with PurePete. Once the texture changes, it's a sign they're past their prime. Maybe contact the brand? Sometimes they'll replace it. Also, check if they have any funky smell. If not, they might be ok but I personally wouldn't eat them.
I've had similar issues with gummies from certain brands. Some use sugar coatings that bloom easily. There's a temperature sensor I got on Amazon that alerts me if my cupboard gets too hot. Helps a lot. But yeah, if they're hard and discolored, don't eat them.
