DIY Magnesium Gummies – Help with texture and taste!
Hey everyone, I tried making my own magnesium gummies with gelatin and magnesium citrate powder. First batch turned out like rubbery jello that tastes like chalk. Any tips on ratios or flavors that actually work? I'm desperate for sleep help.
Tom, I've been there. For better texture, try using half the gelatin and add some agar agar. Also, magnesium citrate is bitter – mix in some stevia and fruit powder (like raspberry). I do 1 tbsp gelatin, 1 tsp agar, 1/2 cup water, and 1/4 tsp magnesium. Chill for 2 hours – not rubbery.
I use agar only (vegan) and it's tricky. My trick: bloom agar in cold water for 10 mins, then heat slowly. For taste, I add a splash of lemon juice and a bit of maple syrup. Also, make sure your magnesium is micronized or it'll be gritty. Good luck!
Tom, I feel you on the chalk taste. I actually mix in a little coconut oil and vanilla extract. Also, don't forget to let the mixture cool a bit before pouring into molds – if it's too hot, the magnesium can degrade. Namaste.
