Help! My kid thinks magnesium gummies are candy...
So I bought these magnesium gummies for my anxiety (meditation is great, but gummies help too lol). I left the bottle on the counter and my 5-year-old found them. I walked into the kitchen to see him shoving a handful into his mouth like they were gummy bears! 😱 He ate like 6 before I stopped him. Should I be worried? He seems fine, but ugh...
Oh no! That's a classic parent moment though 😂. Check the label - most magnesium gummies have about 2-3 mg per gummy? If he ate 6 that's maybe 15-18mg which is probably okay for a kid his age, but I'd call poison control just to be safe. And yeah, the texture is so close to candy, it's basically a trap. I hide mine in the back of the pantry now.
My wife did the same thing with our gummy multivitamins! I walked in on her eating them while watching TV, said she thought they were just a new flavor of fruit snacks. The struggle is real. 😂 But seriously, maybe buy a lockbox or keep them in a high cabinet? I just tell my kids the 'grown-up gummies' taste yucky (lie) so they don't want them.
Thanks guys! I called poison control and they said he should be fine, just maybe a little sleepy (magnesium relaxes muscles). Phew! He's actually napping now, so... bonus? 😅 I'm definitely getting a lockbox. And Frank, telling them they taste yucky is genius haha!
Napping kid is a win! Silver lining lol. But yeah, I think they should make the bottles with child-resistant caps like medicine. Sometimes I wish they tasted worse so I wouldn't eat too many myself 😬
