I tried making my own magnesium gummies tonight using gelatin and magnesium glycinate powder. They set fine but taste super bitter and chalky. I used 1 tsp powder for 1/2 cup liquid, plus a bit of honey. Any tips for masking the flavor? Also, should I use agar instead?

Hmm, magnesium glycinate can be bitter. Some tips I’ve seen: use a strong flavor (like lemon or raspberry) and a sweetener that covers – maybe stevia or monk fruit. Also, try reducing the powder to 1/2 tsp per cup and see if you still get enough. Agar gives a firmer, less jelly-like texture; it’s finicky with acid though.

Definitely watch the sugar! I use erythritol or allulose instead of honey. Honey will spike insulin. And for bitter, try adding a pinch of salt – it can balance. Also, some powders are just nasty; I switched to magnesium citrate and it’s less bitter.

Wait, are you sure you should be making these at home? I mean, dosage can be off. What if you take too much? And gummies from the store have special processes to avoid spoilage. Just sayin’.

Good point about dosage, but I use a scale and know my daily need. I just want a fun way to take it. I’ll try the salt and erythritol next batch. Thanks all! Any recs for a good flavor combo?
