Hey all! I got a bottle of magnesium gummies last month (berry flavor) and they've totally changed. They're like hard little pebbles now, and some have a white powdery coating. Also, a few are stuck together in a clump. I'm not sure if they're still good. The expiration date isn't until next year. Are they safe to eat? I don't want to waste them, but I also don't want to get sick.

Oh honey, I feel you! That happens to my gummies all the time. The white stuff is just sugar bloom - it's basically sugar crystals coming to the surface. Totally safe. The hard texture is likely due to air exposure or temperature changes. They might not taste as good, but they won't hurt you. Mine got hard and I still ate them, no issues. Just maybe not as pleasant.

I've seen this a lot with gummies. The moisture in the gummies can migrate and make them hard or sticky. It's a natural process, not a sign of spoilage. As long as they smell fine and there's no weird mold, they should be safe. But I always recommend checking for any funkiness. If they've been exposed to heat, that could cause them to melt and re-harden, which might change the texture but not the safety. I'd say go ahead, but maybe eat them with water to help them go down lol.

I'm a busy guy, so I just store my gummies in a cool, dry place, and even then they can get a bit weird. Honestly, if they're hard, they're just less tasty. I've eaten gummies that were rock solid, and they still gave me the magnesium I needed. The only thing I'd worry about is if they've been exposed to extreme temps or moisture, which could promote mold growth. Look for any dark spots or smell. If it's just sugar bloom or hardening, you're fine. But if they taste weird or have a strange odor, toss 'em.
