THREAD: Magnesium gummies - my toddler thinks they're candy!Started by OrganicOlivia814

Okay, I need to share this before I panic too much. My 4-year-old found my magnesium gummies (the organic ones with no artificial colors) and ate like 5 of them thinking they were 'special candy.' I caught him just as he was going for #6! He's totally fine, thank goodness, but now I'm terrified he's going to keep sneaking them. Has anyone else had their kids (or partners!) confuse these for treats? How do you store yours safely?

Oh man, I feel you! Not with kids, but my night shift brain has done similar. Came home exhausted, saw the magnesium gummies next to my melatonin ones, and almost took a handful thinking they were my sleep aid. They do look and taste like candy tbh. I keep mine in a locked med box now - maybe try a high cabinet with a child lock? Also, maybe explain to your little one they're 'grown-up vitamins' not candy? Easier said than done with a 4yo tho lol.

That's scary, Olivia! Glad he's okay. On the flip side, my 7-year-old REFUSES to take them because she says the texture is 'weird and sticky.' She calls them 'slimy bears' 😂 I've tried hiding them in smoothies, but she's a detective with textures. Anyone have tips for making them more palatable for picky kids? Or maybe a DIY magnesium gummy recipe with better texture? I'm willing to experiment in the kitchen!

First, glad your kiddo is safe, Olivia! This is why I advocate for clear, minimalist packaging without cartoonish designs. These companies make them look like candy to sell more, but it's irresponsible. Have you considered switching to a powdered magnesium mix? Less appealing to little hands, and you can control the dose. Also, maybe try a supplement safe with a combination lock? Stay vigilant, friends!
