THREAD: My magnesium gummies look weird - are they still safe to eat?Started by OP

Hey everyone, hoping for some advice. I've been taking these magnesium gummies for about 2 months now, but the last batch I opened looks... off. They're usually soft and chewy, but now they're kinda hard and have this white powdery stuff on them (sugar bloom maybe?). Some are even sticking together in the bottle. They don't smell bad or anything, but I'm worried about eating them. Has anyone else had this happen? Are they still safe?

OP, I've seen this before with my gummies when I forget to close the lid tightly after my 5AM dose before rushing to meetings. Moisture gets in or out, and they harden or get that sugar bloom. From what I've read, it's usually safe - just a texture/flavor issue. But I'd check the expiration date first. If they're expired, I'd toss them. No time for stomach issues during my back-to-back Zoom calls!

Agree with AlphaAdam. It's likely just sugar crystallization from humidity changes. I keep mine in a cool, dark place (minimalist shelf in my pantry) and haven't had issues. If they're not expired and smell fine, they're probably safe, but the texture might be unpleasant. Personally, I'd use it as a reminder to simplify - maybe switch to a powder or capsule to avoid this altogether. Less fuss.

Lol, welcome to the gummy life! I've had this happen when I was traveling through humid areas last month - my gummies turned into a sticky brick. Sugar bloom is common; it's just glucose or sucrose recrystallizing. Safe to eat, but might taste gritty. Pro tip: store them with a silica gel packet if you're on the move. If you're really worried, maybe skip this batch. Not worth risking your gut health while nomading!
